Academy of Information Technology & Engineering

Description: The Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE) in
Stamford is the first high school of its kind in Connecticut for students
who are interested in all aspects of technology. AITE is a public,
interdistrict magnet school that draws students from Stamford, Greenwich,
Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan and Ridgefield.
The high school is a 120,000 SF, three-story building located on the
Rippowam Center property. The facility has wireless classrooms, labs, a
gym, a 350-seat cafeteria and office spaces and accommodate 750 students.

Amity High School

Client: Regional School District #5
Description: Renovations and expansion to the existing high school provide
accommodations for approximately 1,674 students in grades 9 through 12.
The scope of this project included building demolition, auditorium
repairs, expansion of the science department, site development and
construction of a two-story 90,000 s.f. addition. Moreover, the school's
renovation called for the interim lease of modular classrooms to
accommodate both educational and construction schedules.
Other upgrades like HVAC and indoor air quality improvements, technology
system upgrade and expansion, and light renovations to the existing
building have also been incorporated into the renovated facility, as well
as, improvements to electrical, communications, and alarm systems.

Ansonia High School

Description: Designed to house 700 students with expansion capability, the Ansonia High School was developed to serve the entire community as a year-round facility. This efficient 163,000 s.f. facility represents the latest in educational facility design and technology. Core facilities include a 450-seat auditorium, 1,000-seat gymnasium, cafeteria with full-service kitchen, and centrally located media center. The building is fully networked for computers and educational technology and includes state-of-the-art mechanical/electrical systems, including air conditioning, energy-efficient lighting systems, and communications/security systems.

Ansonia Middle School
Ansonia, CT
Client: City of Ansonia, Ansonia, CT
Description: Upon completion and occupancy of the new Ansonia High School, the existing high school was converted to a middle school, designed to house 600 students to serve grades 6 through 8. Renovations to the existing facility included both fire and accessibility code compliance, and major interior renovations. As part of the project, locker rooms serving the physical education program were updated, and existing classrooms were converted into new science labs, art and music facilities, and spaces serving technology and special education programs.

Betsy Ross Arts Magnet Middle School

Description: This new 90,500 s.f. school is designed to house a citywide, arts-focused magnet school program for grades 5 to 8. The school consists of theater arts classrooms, visual arts and music studios, several performance exhibition spaces, dance studios, and black box theater spaces, all with sophisticated theater and audio-visual equipment. In addition, there are traditional classrooms with state-of-the-art technology, a multimedia library center, cafeteria and a gymnasium.

Branford High School, Phases I & IV, Branford, CT
Client: Town of Branford, Branford, CT
Description: This two-phase major school addition/renovation project, totaling 84,000 s.f., is steel frame construction on concrete filled steel pipe piles with brick veneer. The existing courtyard was enclosed to connect the existing facility and is now a three-story atrium.

Brookside Elementary School Norwalk, CT
Client: City of Norwalk
Description: Fusco Corporation was the construction manager at risk for
the renovation and addition of Brookside Elementary School. Initially
built in 1952, the school consisted of 52,000 square feet, all of which
was renovated. Five additional wings added another 18,000 square feet of
new construction.
Major areas of work included a new learning center; new heating and
electrical systems and the addition of air conditioning throughout the
school; creating an "eat in" area in the new multipurpose room and
restoring existing facade and replacing all the windows.

Description: This 300,000 s.f. three-story steel framed structure is faced with brick and precast architectural concrete trim. It consists of seven distinct wings, all interrelated yet consolidated into a single functioning and logical educational facility.

Fair Haven Middle School, Fair Haven, CT
Client: City of New Haven, New Haven, CT
Description: Originally built in 1929, Fair Haven Middle School houses
grades 5-8 and accommodates up to 800 students.
Renovations to the existing 156,171 s.f. building included new classrooms, art/music rooms, media center, science classrooms, laboratories and a new cafeteria as well as an upgrade of all electrical/mechanical and life safety systems, ADA and building codes.Work included a complete restoration of the 1,200-seat auditorium to it’s original grandeur. Seats were replaced and upgrades were made on the stage rigging, acoustics, sound, and lighting systems. This auditorium was completed 8 months early to accommodate City functions. A 38,800 s.f. addition consists of a new regulation size gymnasium and locker rooms. Architect: Roth & Moore, New Haven, CT

James H. Naylor Elementary School, Hartford, CT
Client: Hartford School Building Commission
Description: Fusco Corporation was awarded the Construction Manager at
Risk contract for the renovation and addition to the James H. Naylor
Elementary School. This 1920's era facility, with its focus on civics and
technology, is being expanded from 70,000 square feet to 113,500 square
feet and being renovated "like new" throughout to meet the state's
requirements. The new construction will increase the instructional and
core facilities (cafeteria and gymnasium) to accommodate the increase from
450 to 750 students and allow the existing gymnasium to be renovated into
a new Library/Media Center. Because of the simplicity of the plan
organization, the school contains several multipurpose assembly spaces
(atrium, cafeteria, gymnasium and auditorium) while maintaining the state
guidelines for obtaining full reimbursement. Construction was completed in
April 2006.

John S. Martinez Elementary School K-8, New Haven, CT
Client: City of New Haven, New Haven, CT
Description: To integrate this K-8 school within the scale of the neighborhood and its close proximity to the water, the school's design encompasses 100,000 s.f., which include a series of small scale curved facades that are reminiscent of a fleet of sail boats.
One of the most distinctive features of the school is the landscaped open-air courtyard, located at the heart of the building's interior and flanked on four sides by classrooms, offices, and cafeteria/auditorium, is outfitted with plantings, pavement, seating, and program spaces for the sciences. Additional spaces include a swimming pool, which is available for community use, a gymnasium, media center/library, and playground.

Description: As part of the system-wide upgrade and consolidation of Ansonia's schools, Mead was converted to a 3-5 grade elementary school. This addition/renovation project consisting of 76,000 s.f., included new classrooms, media center, cafeteria/auditorium and computer room, as well as mechanical and electrical upgrades.

Description: This Pre-K to Grade 2 facility has a total area of 124,000 s.f. The school has a two-story academic portion that houses the majority of the classrooms. The classrooms are organized into three clusters, with each cluster consisting of four kindergarten, four first grade and four second grade classrooms. The more public/administrative portion of the building houses the core facilities, including the cafeteria, gymnasium, music and art rooms, the media center, and the main administrative offices.
